SYNVISC® (hylan G-F 20) is an elastoviscous high molecular weight fluid containing hylan A and hylan B polymers produced from chicken combs. Hylans are derivatives of hyaluronan (sodiumhyaluronate). Hylan G-F 20 is unique in that the hyaluronan is chemically crosslinked. Hyaluronan is a long-chain polymer containing repeating disaccharide units of Na-glucuronate-Nacetylglucosamine.

INDICATIONS
SYNVISC is indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative nonpharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics, e.g., acetaminophen.

What is SYNVISC?
SYNVISC is a type of osteoarthritis knee pain treatment called a viscosupplement or hyaluronan injection. It lubricates and cushions your knee joint and relieves pain, which can allow you to move more freely for up to six months.

How is SYNVISC different from Synvisc-One?
SYNVISC is the same formulation as Synvisc-One. The only difference is that Synvisc-One is provided with one injection, compared to the three injections required for SYNVISC. Both treatments can provide up to six months of osteoarthritis knee pain relief.

Is the cost of SYNVISC covered by insurance?
The cost of SYNVISC varies, however the treatment is typically eligible for reimbursement by Medicare and most insurance plans. Check with your insurance plan to determine your exact benefits. If you are denied insurance coverage for your SYNVISC treatment, please contact SYNVISC ConnectionSM at 1-800-982-8292, M-F, 9am-8pm (ET).

How is SYNVISC given?
SYNVISC is injected directly into the knee over the course of three doctor visits, one week apart. It's a simple, in-office procedure that takes just a few minutes.

What are the side effects?
Since SYNVISC is injected directly into the knee, it has fewer serious side effects than pills, which are absorbed into the bloodstream. Side effects from SYNVISC are infrequent. In studies, about 7% of patients experienced pain, swelling and/or fluid buildup around the knee. Other side effects, such as rash, have been reported rarely.

Should I reduce my activity after being treated with SYNVISC?
After each injection, you can resume normal day-to-day activities, but you should avoid any strenuous activities for about 48 hours.

When will I start to feel pain relief?
Some patients may begin to feel osteoarthritis knee pain relief after the first injection, but you need to have all three injections to get the maximum benefit. Although everyone responds differently, most patients feel the greatest relief 8 to 12 weeks after the first injection.

How long will I experience relief?
Although all patients respond differently, your osteoarthritis knee pain relief can last up to six months.

Can I receive SYNVISC more than once? Yes, SYNVISC can be repeated safely. When your osteoarthritis knee pain returns, talk to your doctor to see whether SYNVISC or Synvisc-One is right for you.

Can both my knees be treated with SYNVISC?
Yes. You can receive treatment in both knees at the same time or at different times. Ask your doctor what is best for you.
